Swivel chairs use a central leg which often end with a base fitted with wheels, allowing the seat to spin around. The first prototype of swivel chair was invented by Thomas Jefferson, who used a modified Windsor chair to make the seat spin around. Probably this was the chair he sat on while drafting the Declaration of Independence, and it’s now property of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia.
